Free legal advice at the police station (UK)

If you are interviewed by police under caution (whether under arrest or attending voluntarily), you normally have access to free, independent legal advice funded through Legal Aid for the police station stage in the usual way — this is not “free forever” legal services for every stage of life, but it is a real statutory protection at a critical moment.

What you should do

  1. Say you want a solicitor — clearly and early.
  2. Do not chat about the allegation “off the record”.
  3. If you are in Kent, call 01732 247427 or ask custody to contact Tuckers Solicitors LLP; you may request Robert Cashman subject to availability and conflicts.

What “free” does not mean

It does not mean you can ignore court deadlines later, and it does not remove the seriousness of the interview. It does mean you should not skip advice because you are worried about paying at the police station stage.

Legal services are provided by Tuckers Solicitors LLP (SRA ID: 127795). General information only.
