Fees for police station representation
At a police interview under caution, my advice is free under legal aid, full stop. That isn't means-tested, and it doesn't depend on owning a house or having a job. Private and agent fees are different: I quote fixed amounts before attendance so firms and paying clients know where they stand. I don't work for the police and no fee arrangement changes that.
Legal aid at the station
PACE gives you the right to free legal advice while detained or attending an interview under caution. The Legal Aid Agency pays through the duty scheme.
You should never skip a solicitor because you worry about cost. The police won't tell you the interview strategy you need.
Private fixed fees
Private fees cover my travel, preparation, and interview within agreed Kent geography. I confirm in writing before I attend.
If you start privately and legal aid applies, I tell you so you can choose the most sensible funding route.
Agent rates for firms
Criminal firms book me as agent for Kent stations at my published agent rate (see the service rates page). Afterwards they get a full typed attendance note as a PDF and a VAT invoice by email.
Urgent out-of-area jobs are discussed case by case. I'd rather decline than arrive too late to help.
What fees don't cover
Court representation, expert reports, and appeals are outside a standard police station fee unless we agree otherwise.
Bail variation applications at court later are usually a separate piece of work for the court team.
