About Robert Cashman
I'm Robert Cashman. I've been a solicitor since 15 January 2001, and I worked in criminal defence for years before I qualified, so it's over 30 years in criminal law. I'm a duty solicitor and a Higher Court Advocate.
I cover police stations across Kent, for people held in custody and for voluntary interviews. East Kent (Canterbury, Margate, Folkestone, Dover) means a longer journey for me, so call early. I work days, evenings, weekends and bank holidays, depending on the case. When you instruct me, I come myself. If two jobs clash and I can't get there, Tuckers Solicitors LLP can send another accredited representative. If the person in custody agrees, I'll keep their family updated while they're held.

What I actually do
The job is the same whatever the allegation, from shop theft to murder. I find out what the police have. I go through it with you in private. We decide together whether you answer questions, hand in a prepared statement or say no comment. Then I'm in the room with you while it happens, and I'll step in if the questioning goes wrong.
I can't tell you how a case will end. Nobody honest can. What I can do is make sure you don't walk into that room without knowing what you're facing.
What it costs
If the police interview you under caution, my advice at the station is free under legal aid. It doesn't depend on your income. If you'd rather instruct me privately, I'll tell you the fixed fee before I start.
If you're charged
If your case goes to court, it's handled through Tuckers Solicitors LLP. I hand it over to the advocate who'll represent you, with my notes, so you're not starting again with a stranger.

I'm a duty solicitor, not only an accredited rep. I cover police stations across Kent (with longer travel time for East Kent), plus voluntary interviews. I attend myself. If two jobs clash and I can't get there, I can pass it to a trusted rep I know, but only if you agree first.
